Frequently Asked Questions

What ingredients are in your soaps?

Our handmade cold-process soaps are made with a thoughtfully selected blend of coconut oil, beef tallow, palm oil, sweet almond oil, castor oil, avocado oil, shea butter, and vitamin E oil. We also use sodium hydroxide as part of the traditional soapmaking process, along with sodium lactate and fragrance or essential oils depending on the scent. Sodium hydroxide is what allows the oils and butters to undergo saponification, the process that transforms them into soap.

Because colors, fragrances, and other additions can vary by scent, we recommend checking the individual product page for the complete ingredient list for each bar.

What is cold-process soap?

Cold-process soap is made from scratch by combining oils and butters with a carefully measured lye solution. This starts a natural process called saponification, which transforms the ingredients into soap. Our bars are made in small batches using the traditional cold-process method, then given plenty of time to cure before they’re ready for you.

Are Craft Fox soaps handmade?

Yes! Our soaps are handmade in small batches rather than mass produced. Each batch is carefully measured, mixed, poured, cut, cured, packaged, and labeled with attention to detail. Small differences between bars are completely normal and are part of the character of a genuinely handmade product.

How long does handmade soap last?

How long a bar lasts depends on how often you use it and how it’s stored. Keeping your soap dry between uses can significantly extend its life. For the best results, place your bar on a draining soap dish or use a sisal soap pouch and allow it to dry completely between showers.

Why does cold-process soap need to cure?

After cold-process soap is cut, it needs time to rest and cure. During this period, excess water gradually evaporates and the bar becomes harder and longer lasting. We allow our soaps to cure for at least four weeks before packaging them for sale because handmade soap is worth the wait.

Do you release seasonal scents?

Absolutely! We love creating limited-edition and seasonal soap scents throughout the year, including fall, Halloween, holiday, spring, summer, and other special releases. Seasonal scents may only be available for a limited time, so if you find one you love, we recommend grabbing it while it’s available.
